Updated . By the AskBeforeYouSend editorial team (how we fact-check). Fact-checked against the official sources listed at the bottom.
Key facts

- Cash App says no platform can reverse a payment you started yourself, even if you were misled.
- Report a payment in the app: find the payment and choose "Report an issue".
What it looks like
A made-up example in the style Cash App describes. These often come as social media messages.
How the scam works
- A stranger offers to multiply your money, often after sending a small test payment back to build trust.
- A fake "support agent" asks for your sign-in code or PIN to "fix" your account.
- Someone sends a fake payment notice, or overpays and asks you to return the extra.
- A "giveaway" or "survey" asks you to pay first to collect.
Red flags
- "I'll turn $100 into $1,000"
- Anyone asking for your sign-in code, PIN or password
- Screenshots of big balances as "proof"
- Being overpaid by a stranger
- Paying a fee to get a prize or giveaway
What to do now
- Don't send money and don't share any code.
- Check your balance inside the app, not in an email or text.
- Report the payment in the app (choose "Report an issue"), or get help at 1 (800) 969-1940.
- Turn on the app's Security Lock so every payment needs your face, fingerprint or PIN.
- Report it to the FTC. If a card or bank is linked, call that bank too.

Questions
Can Cash App get my money back?
Sometimes. Cash App offers protection for unauthorized Cash App Card charges and reviews scam reports, but it says payments you started yourself generally can't be reversed and refunds aren't guaranteed. Report it in the app right away.
Does Cash App support ever call and ask for my code?
Cash App says your payment app will never ask for your password, PIN or one-time sign-in code. Anyone who does is a scammer.
